paint chip diy

So I am in NYC for July, well Jersey City actually, but same difference. Lilo and I were long overdue for a nice month long visit instead of her flying to Nashville every other weekend. I'm so happy to be here doing all the simple couple stuff I miss like ordering take out and watching movies, midnight trips to the diner downstairs, and cuddling! Cohabitation, however cuddly, is still an adjustment process though, especially in our 12 by 12 studio apartment.
Every time we are together in a space for more than a few days we start getting that itch to move the furniture around, upgrade stuff, and in general just redecorate. We both flip the others nesting switches, and then off to flea markets and Ikea we go! This time I convinced her that a bookcase would fit on the love seat wall if we just shoved the floor lamp in between them. Success!

The Jim Morrison art looks great above the couch, but Lilo wants to maybe put it above her bed, which would leave this very tall wall plain white. Not wanting to paint, I've been searching online for some wall treatment inspiration and came across this paint swatch wall on Poppytalk. The lovely Liz Apple, faced with the age old question: what color should we paint this wall, went completely bananas with paint swatches and decided that they looked better than any single wall color ever would.
Of course I  have seen this done before, but I really like the unique color pattern Liz and her friend laid out, and the way it tapers off toward the end. The wall seems to move, and this reminds me of raindrops or a waterfall. I don't know if we will go for it on this wall, but there are plenty of free walls in our Nashville house. Needless to say, I will be Home Depot hopping to start a stock pile of paint swatches.
