sara: heading into summer

I AM FREE!!!!! Thursday was the last day of school for my students. It started off nicely enough with an awards assembly where I managed to not mangle any names too horribly when I announced certificate winners. I also got lots of kudos from my bosses for the big college fair project that I organized which has been on display this week. The day got a little more interesting though when four 8th grade girls decided it was time to have a brawl in one of the classrooms. There was much blood, including a broken nose when one girl got kicked in the face. End result: they all left the building in handcuffs and will be expelled for the first semester of the 9th grade year. Never a dull moment here.

We're moving to a "balanced calendar" next year which means my summer is being cut down to a mere six weeks. Regardless of how short it will be, I have BIG plans for this summer. In the days/weeks leading up to summer, I make such big plans. Anything and everything seems possible for me to accomplish once summer gets here. Invariably though, I overfill my summer and never get as much done as I wanted to. I want to be more realistic this summer so that I'm happy with my results.

So what are my priorities for this summer?
-Health. I still have a month of physical therapy left for my knee. I'm planning to join a new gym and start doing whatever I can do, in a hardcore fashion. My food plan is also getting a major overhaul.
-Nashpop. We are vending at two events just in June alone which will involve 2-3 days a week of work painting things. I also need to do a better job of getting more items up in the Etsy shop plus some blog post series that I want to focus on.
-Farm. All I have planted right now are some herbs. I'm kicking it into high gear the minute summer starts. My goal is to be able to feed our house mainly from the garden and hopefully have enough leftover to sell a little bit on the side too. It would be awesome to eat out of our garden all summer (see above re: food plan revamp).
-Other art projects. I want to get my own personal Etsy store up and stocked with zines and small art pieces. I also have tons of sewing and knitting projects. I taught myself how to embroider a few weeks ago and want to keep doing that.
-Travel/music. We already have tickets for several kickass concerts this summer, some of which are out of town. We also might hit CT to see Jason's family. And odds are we will hit Atlanta once or twice.

What are your summer plans?
